If your heart rate monitor, power meter, or speed/cadence sensor is not connecting or drops connection during rides, check the following common causes:
- Ensure the sensor isn't paired to your phone's OS Bluetooth menu: BLE fitness sensors must connect directly inside the SuperCycle app, not through your phone's general Bluetooth settings. If paired in iOS Settings → Bluetooth or Android Bluetooth Settings, select "Forget Device".
- Verify Bluetooth (BLE) support (No ANT+): ANT+ is not supported. SuperCycle connects exclusively to Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) devices. If a sensor only supports ANT+, it cannot connect to SuperCycle.
- Wake up the sensor: Most sensors (speed, cadence, power) go to sleep to save battery when idle. Spin your pedals or wheels 3-4 times to wake them before scanning.
- Smartwatches (e.g. Garmin watches): Ensure your watch is actively broadcasting heart rate over Bluetooth (e.g. on Garmin: Wrist Heart Rate → Broadcast Heart Rate).
- Check for competing Bluetooth apps: Most BLE sensors only support 1 (or at most 2) active Bluetooth connections. If your sensor is connected over Bluetooth to Zwift, another cycling app, a smartwatch, or another phone, SuperCycle will be blocked from pairing. Disconnect or turn off Bluetooth on nearby devices. (Note: ANT+ broadcasts do not interfere with Bluetooth—your sensor can broadcast over ANT+ to a Garmin or Wahoo bike computer while simultaneously connecting to SuperCycle over Bluetooth).
- Did you recently replace the battery? (Changed Sensor ID): When you replace the coin cell (CR2032) battery in some sensors, the sensor generates a new Bluetooth hardware address. SuperCycle will keep searching for the old address. Delete the sensor from your Sensor library, wake the sensor, and re-scan.
- Did you restore a database across platforms (Android ↔ iOS)? Android uses hardware MAC addresses, while iOS generates private UUIDs. If you restored a backup from Android to iPhone (or vice versa), delete the sensors in your Sensor library and re-pair them.
- Cold weather battery voltage drops: CR2032 coin cells suffer sharp voltage drops near 0°C (32°F), causing the sensor to lose connection or drop packets mid-ride even if the battery tests fine at room temperature.
- The capacitor discharge reset: Some sensors require a hardware reset after a battery swap. Briefly insert the CR2032 battery upside down (reversed polarity) for 2 to 3 seconds to fully discharge internal capacitors, then flip it right-side up.
- Reset phone Bluetooth: Toggle Bluetooth OFF in your phone settings, wait 10 seconds, then toggle it ON again.
Sensor Connected but No Data Showing? If your sensor connects successfully but widgets show
0 or dashes, see our dedicated guide: Sensor Paired but No Data Displayed or Recorded.
Sensors Disconnecting When Screen Turns Off? If your Bluetooth sensors disconnect whenever your phone is locked or after switching apps, your operating system is likely killing SuperCycle in the background. See our complete guide: Prevent the OS from terminating SuperCycle in the background (Android & iOS).
Automatic Reconnection: SuperCycle features automatic background reconnection. If your sensor briefly disconnects due to radio interference, it will automatically reconnect without needing you to stop your ride.
