Phone died or app closed mid-ride: Interrupted ride data protection

How 60-second database checkpoints minimize data loss if the app closes or crashes unexpectedly.

While mobile apps can occasionally crash or be shut down by the operating system, SuperCycle is engineered so data loss is minimized:

  • 60-Second Checkpoints: Every 60 seconds of riding, your telemetry points, laps, and metrics are committed to local SQLite disk storage.
  • Minimized Data Loss: If an unexpected crash, OS background kill, or battery shutdown occurs, your ride data up to the most recent 60-second checkpoint is safely preserved on your device.
  • Saved in Ride History: When you relaunch SuperCycle, the saved portion of the interrupted ride is preserved in your local Ride History, where it can be reviewed, analyzed, or exported (FIT, GPX, TCX).
  • Interrupted Rides Cannot Be Resumed: Once the app has been closed—whether intentionally or terminated by the operating system—an interrupted ride cannot be resumed; you must start a new ride.
Why Background Termination Prevention is Critical: Because an interrupted ride cannot be resumed into an active session, preventing the OS from terminating SuperCycle while in your pocket or when the screen is locked is essential to keep your entire route recorded as a single continuous ride. See our complete setup guide: Prevent the OS from terminating SuperCycle in the background (Android & iOS).
